Hey @fasttimes I tried to wait out the wind but at 9:00pm I said to hell with it and suited up for a quick lap. I just couldn’t let the chance for such a warm ride go by the wayside. But yes, it was very windy!

Just kind of tooled around the Creek and made my way down to Marie Curtis and then along the Waterfront Trail. Minus the wind it was a very peaceful ride since there was no one out – the wind and the time of night likely had something to do with that. 😉

Highlight was hearing coyotes howling and yipping (sp?) making my way back up from MC at around 10pm. I have seen them in the Creek before (I actually saw 2 on my ride to work on Tuesday) but I have never heard them before. Pretty cool/ eerie. This is their mating season and I quite often would see them when out on Winter night rides last year. Obviously they were up to something last night….

That sounds pretty epic @fietser I’ve seen coyote tracks in there but no actual coyotes yet. Glad you got out last night. Even with the crazy gusts, it was a beautiful night.

I did my loop again today but it was pretty frosty out. They were calling for sun but I got caught in some flurries. Was still awesome to bang out a ride like this in February., No complaints. Ice was minimal and found some frozen dirt which was pretty amazing.

Did my little urban loop through the ravines again today. Trying to beat the freezing rain and further ground saturation. I poke into trails here and there and did actually find that things are firming up nicely. Thought it would be worse, but it’s better than a few weeks ago. Still some bad areas but there are some sweet patches for sure.

So glad I got the Jake The Snake. Really loving it on days like this!

Think I would have gone crazy this spring without a cross bike. It’s been my saviour during this freeze, thaw and flood month.

But i am pretty over it. Want to roll on proper dirt on the trail bike. Patience…

I couldn’t agree more @fasttimes. I have actually started to refer to my CX bike as my SS bike – not singlespeed but rather, Sanity Saver. The weather today isn’t helping any…

If the weather isn’t too bad I hope to rip out a quick urban lap tonight. Fingers crossed.

While I have run seemingly every tire size from 1″ – 5″ to try and ride year round, even I am over this “spring”. I want dirt!

Another sanity saver ride. Pretty much slop everywhere but the sandy soil was firm, left no ruts. Rest was path, blech!

    Now back to winter 2.0

90% of my urban loop was passable today sans studded tires. New Lynskey GR250 felt amazing, getting stoked for some epics this spring.

With all the trails being a complete gong show this weekend, I decided to do an urban loop with my neighbour Hal. We went up the Creek, through Clareville Conservations Area and down the Humber, which turned out to be a great 75km adventure. Got to really test some of my new gear out in rain, ice and plenty of mud. Mud like I have never seen. I told myself I was going to ride in more adverse conditions this year, to prepare for some upcoming trips , and this was a good start. Unfortunately this was a last minute ride and not knowing I was going to tackle this yesterday, did my heavy squats on Saturday. Ouch! Luckily Hal rode 100km the day before so we were on the same suffer plan. Great ride! This rounds off my week at around 200km, which, for the end of Januar,y is pretty terrific. Between fatbiking and these urban loops, I haven’t had to spend any time on the trainer this winter.

Pretty much all-time urban loop season. Lots of the good stuff is rolling. Most of the singletrack and dirt connections are still too soft so I have an abbreviated 50km, vs 75km, loop I have been doing. Still plenty of trail and soil to sample along the way but not as epic as the full loop. It goes up the Creek and down the Humber as well. I’ve done it a few time now and pretty much ready to tackle the 100km full loop. ouch 🙁

Nice! I’m probably still a week or two from having my bike ready. Might have to do a few rides on the fixed gear.

Last time we rode this loop, the 75km version, we snapped an RD out of the gate, so it was SS the whole way. I rode the gear my riding buddy had after the conversion. Took a while but was amazing. So yeah, I’m game for anything as long as it’s fun..

Trails are soft so gravel and cross rides are the way to go for me at the moment. Trails will take some time to dry yet. Lots of cleanup for most networks as well. The silver-lining is that the paths and most of my urban loop is rolling super well. I’m still doing my up the Creek, down the Humber loop and loving it.

I probably shouldn’t jinx it, but I’m hoping to finally have my bike rolling again this week. Will be great to get back out on some of my old loops.
