Yeah I had some apparently not-totally-accurate intel that there might be a trail from Wilson along the west edge of the golf course to Earl Bales, and while it looks like the potential is there, I couldn’t make anything out.
There is definitely somebody’s bed/living set-up under Wilson there just south of the GC, so keep that in mind if exploring.
May 17, 2015 at 10:25 pm #803697I think the trail you may have been looking for is on the northern edge of the course, but I’m foggy on where it starts or terminates on that northern or eastern edge. I believe it’s part of the BDDR from last fall if anyone has Strava or otherwise of that.
May 17, 2015 at 10:48 pm #803698I’ve done recon on the other side of the course recently, and was the guy that stupidly and awesomely led a BDDR thru the open golf course a few years back to access that trail.
No, what I want is a sweet singletrack along the uninterrupted forest along the west side of the course. The woods are prime for it. I’m not even worried about the golf course, but I have to say I’m a bit scared getting anywhere near the massive house being constructed halfway down the ravine. (See Google Earth). Whoever owns that seems like they might have NIMBY issues.
May 19, 2015 at 3:44 pm #803742So tomorrow at 7? Parking lot under sheppard bridge seems like an easy and logical spot to meet, so I’d say we should meet there.
May 19, 2015 at 5:55 pm #803743Works for me, see you at 7p tomorrow
May 19, 2015 at 6:33 pm #803748It looks like I won’t be able to make it after all! Maybe next time.
May 19, 2015 at 7:07 pm #803749@veteran_youth a single track along the west side of the course is exactly what I want too. The trail along the east side will get you to beneath the 401 (finding a trail beyond there has been like searching for the northwest passage for me), but there are several really steep hills up and down the edge of the ravine. There used to be a pretty decent little bike park there, but the city destroyed it a couple years ago.
May 20, 2015 at 4:58 pm #803803Family stuff came up tonight and I can’t make it, but hope to catch the next one.
May 20, 2015 at 9:31 pm #803805Really fun ride this evening with @kollib. Some incredibly well maintained trails up here, and a few that look to have been long forgotten. It’s not the south, but easily an hour worth of looping around. Well worth riding if you’re up in North York.
May 20, 2015 at 10:17 pm #803806Absolutely, look forward to doing it again! Hopefully a few others can come along next time as well.
May 21, 2015 at 11:49 am #803845Glad to hear those trails are still alive. I used to rip around there when living on Florence Ave. In fact i had flagged and started to rake out a mini DH line on the south side of the ski hill along the ridge but ended up moving before it was rideable.
Kinda glad to hear that little DJ camp got taken out – it was super sketchy and only a matter of time until someone got hurt. Also incredibly dirty, I packed out a few bags of garbage but gave up on the kids who clearly didn’t give a shit about not littering in the area.
May 25, 2015 at 11:08 pm #803928Looking at hitting this up again this Wednesday. I think I’ve got a relatively good way to link up the only two “known” trails we didn’t touch last week. I think the run up through the Addington Greenbelt is pretty worth while. Took a walk on Friday and there is a fox den across on the north bank with 3-4 kits on the hustle around it (iPhone pics were garbage). Either way it’s a reasonable way of getting up to tackle the north edge on the golf course. Gonna do some quick recon tomorrow afternoon and see if it works out.
May 26, 2015 at 4:12 pm #803946I’ll join you again tomorrow. Never thought of using the addington greenbelt to get to the north edge of the golf course, but I could see that making a decent loop.
June 2, 2015 at 10:08 pm #804154I’ll likely be going out tomorrow around 4:30. If anyone wants to join me tell me where to meet you
June 2, 2015 at 10:15 pm #804155I’ll try and manage to get down there in time. A lovely gentleman with a battery powered saws-all removed a really annoying tree from the top of the golf course last week and that trail should be just prime now that the dust is down.
