Just stumbled across and joined the forum earlier this evening.
Is there anyone else on here who regularly rides the trails in the Earl Bales, Hinder Property and West Don Parkland area? I’ve been riding these trails for a few years now all by my lonesome and haven’t known anyone else doing the same. I’m wondering if there’s any network of people who ride and maintain these trails (or any others in North York) that I could get involved with? Hoping to expand my knowledge of the system and maybe fix up some of the trails looking a little worse for wear!
ThanksMay 10, 2015 at 11:21 pm #803504
Can’t say much about the maintenance, but I’ve been riding much of this as well. I’d be happy to share what I know of the area as I’m sure you may know of some stretches I don’t.
Feel free to PM me if you’d like and we can set up some time to ride.

Count me in as well. I just moved further west and have been meaning to explore the Earl Bales area. Would appreciate someone giving me a tour.May 11, 2015 at 10:07 am #803510
I somehow haven’t actually been in there this year, although the trail is at the end of my Street.
Although I have lots of time, as there is decent tree cover in there, so the trails are shaded and a bit less prone to growing over with nasty summer weeds compared to some more popular ones in the Don.May 11, 2015 at 10:34 am #803513
Welcome to RFG, @kollib!
I’m from the North York area as well. I’m newer to the area but love to get out and go exploring finding new trails in the area. I’d love to go for a ride some time.May 11, 2015 at 3:46 pm #803527
Great! I don’t think I’ll have a chance to get out for anything more than a quick impromptu ride this week, but maybe we can plan something of a group ride for after the long weekend? Or maybe even on Victoria day?May 11, 2015 at 9:49 pm #803537
I live just across the street from the trails (Shepp & Easton), been frequenting the trails the last 2 years. Would love to show anyone around! Shoot me a text @ 647-989-7157 and we can go for a spin (preferably after 5pm on weekdays).May 11, 2015 at 10:09 pm #803539
How’s everyone for a midweek, maybe Wednesday evening in the coming weeks?May 11, 2015 at 10:29 pm #803540
How about Wednesday next week?
I have never ridden up there, but it is almost exactly the same distance from my place as the Don Valley.May 11, 2015 at 10:50 pm #803543
Works for me, or any Wednesday for that matter.
I’m a 7pm, bring your lights kinda guy. Almost everything I know about is on the east slope, so it’s lighter longer, but I can’t say I know of enough to make it past the 8:30 sundown sorta mark. Maybe some of the other locals can chime in on what they’re aware of, but this about covers what I know of the North Don with a few minor exclusions and a hillclimb around the golf course that my body said “no” to at the time. Pretty sure it’s only meant to be a descent anyway.
As far as meeting up goes I’m super easy since I’m just around the corner. Earl Bales makes sense to me with there being parking if anyone drives, or otherwise because it’s central with lots of iconic places to meet. Certainly open to suggestions.May 12, 2015 at 1:29 am #803545
I can do next wednesday 7.
It’d be possible to get past 8:30 by doubling back on and repeating some trails (which is worth doing in some places). If we did more of a straight shoot through the valley we could be done before 8:30. That said you can’t really do a straight shoot through without missing some trails.
I would say either meet somewhere in Earl Bales or at the northwest corner of the York cemetery.
And @blurredlines I know the hill you’re talking of. It’s a killer! I’ve never been close to making it up.May 12, 2015 at 11:18 pm #803576
I’m game for Wednesday 7pm (this and next week). I think the most convenient place to meet up is under the Sheppard bridge at the parking lot (down the winding road by the dog park).
I’ll be hitting the trails tomorrow so if anyone wants to join let me know.

Not sure exactly when I’ll be able to get out in the coming days, but may be able to sneek out in the coming weeks. I’ll keep an eye out here and post something if/when I can.
With DH places scheduled to open up soon, I tend to use them as my go-to riding locations but i do make exceptions 🙂May 17, 2015 at 1:16 pm #803690
Heading up to do some exploring this aft (Sun May 17), should be around Earl Bales 2:30-3:00. If anyone wants to meet up respond here and I will check the thread at 2:15!May 17, 2015 at 5:31 pm #803694
Just saw this, sadly missed you. Would love to know if you found anything exciting. So far the Hinder Property and Burncrest Park seem to have the longest stretch though it gets very wet when it gets wet. Some “interesting” (read:sketchy) shore like stuff to get around it in a few places.
