    Rode West and Quads/Fruitloop yesterday.

Everything is awesome. So fast. Hero dirt.

Won’t take long to explode into dust.

Looks like there’s a chance the rain will hold off today. Get out there.

Rode Ridge/Motown yesterday and it was on the line between marginal and decent. I would think with the warm weather and wind today the weekend should be pretty much perfect! Get out there and ride, looks like summer is here for the next 48 hours before more rain next week :/ :/ :/

Saw a snapping turtle laying eggs near the top backside of a jump in the pump track in the S. Don. At about 4 feet high and in the middle of the ramp.
It was near the bypass trail where some big tree trunks lie parallel to the trail. If you see disturbed earth on the back of a ramp do not disturb. I will try and ride down and put a marker to identify the nest tomorrow.

Heads up, straight from the source

On trail: Pottery Road to 3 Rocks
    Status: Closed / Red
    Condition: Dry

TRCA crew will be working to repair trail tread at switchback area by Loblaws trailhead. As a result this segment will be closed to the public. Work is anticipated to take approximately one week.

Please respect trail closure and observe the recommended detour. For more information, please contact trails@toronto.ca

Thanks for giving everyone a heads up!

Unfortunately I encountered this closure while out for my afternoon ride today… there were no warning signs on the trail so only when I arrived at the fence just before the climb up to Loblaws did I find out. I thought it inconsiderate that they decided to close both the Loblaws climb and the trail heading down to Sun Valley leaving zero options to continue. (or even walk around). The worker I encounter, although very polite, insisted that I had no choice but to turn around and go back the way I came.

I can certainly understand the trails need maintenance and overall I’d say the city is doing a great job of this, but I feel they can do a better job with planning and notification to trail users. Perhaps when they decide to close a trail they could consider not also closing the only available alternate route at the same time?

Otherwise, a beautiful afternoon ride… trails are absolutely mint with just he odd bit of mud.

Sight lines are getting all kinds of awful anywhere the under story grows in. The Flats, Beaver Flats, and Boo Trail in particular are getting extremely dicey to ride “quickly” on without risking a good old head on with anyone going the opposite direction. Just a friendly reminder to tone it down as those are generally the places you’re going to find folks on foot or with less skill for dodging traffic.

Crothers Woods Stewardship will be out tackling the overgrowth in that area over the next couple weeks 6-8pm on Monday’s. Obviously lending a hand is most appreciated, but even slowing down for the folks out there trimming is “high five” worthy.

Good to hear; I got busted for weed-trimming on Beaver flats last year, so getting that done with an official sanction is great. Was out to the east this morning and while things are in fine shape, i was disappointed to see that the garbage basket at the high lookout near northline access has been summarily dispatched some time in the last few weeks. I have been noticing what i thought was a slight uptick in the number of people just hanging out there, neither dog-walking, riding nor trail running, including for example a couple who had brought take-out food, folding chairs, and were watching the womens’ soccer final on a phone; that latter a use case for the lookout which I had not previously imagined. So I suppose it was foreseeable that this would come to pass.

Slow to update, but the extra “loop” in sun valley had a full trim. Next Monday’s agenda provided the weather co-operates is to tackle the area around the Pottery Road trail head. Both up and Down as well as the bit leading up to the down portion. The overgrowth is real this year with all the rain.

Big tree down across the trail on Motown. It’s located near the start of the third section as you’re travelling northbound. It’s right after the first step-up.

Pottery Trail Head trimming is well underway. The climb is cleared and large portions of the downhill have had nature beaten back significantly. Sadly the downhill isn’t complete and will take another Monday evening to cull the overgrowth and tend to a a few spots that have no hope of drying out without help. As can be expected more hands make for light work and also get a lot more work done. If you’re free 6-8 it’s a pretty solid way to give a little back

Thanks to the person who removed the tree on Motown reported by @adama. That tree was huge and located in an area with standing water, home to lots of mosquitos. Definitely couldn’t have been a pleasant job. Greatly appreciated!

My forearms have been stinging all day from this morning’s ride… seems to be more nettles than usual this year! Maybe give Flats a pass unless you’ve got sleeves. Small tree down on Boo just below the flat section. Pottery, Ridge, Swamp, SHT… some greasy puddles here and there after the other night’s rain, but generally awesome!
