Fantastic conditions & temperature last night for 2.4’s and up on all trails mentioned in recent posts. Same this morning and, I’d wager, tonight and early tomorrow morning. Get it before it’s too soft or gone completely! Careful around the zombie raccoons out there…January 20, 2018 at 10:59 am #818544
Just rode Pottery -> Ridge, about to hit Boo… awesome conditions!
A few spots starting to muddy up, but mostly perfect grippy snow.January 21, 2018 at 6:43 pm #818545
Rode a few hours today and just about any southern exposed piece of terrain is either clear of snow or will be shortly. A few segments of the Lower Don Recreation trail still had snow on them, but almost everything is wet or bare and wet. We’re at that point where if you weren’t riding on strips of ice today you’re likely not going to want to ride anything for few days until things freeze back up.January 24, 2018 at 4:48 pm #818557
Went for a look. I’d describe the conditions as…undesirable. At least as much, if not more, mud than ice.
Got a tree off Dirt Farm, tho. Trickier than expected. Drag from the trunk (not the branches), is what I think I learned.January 26, 2018 at 10:00 am #818560
Tried my luck this morning… not so great. Mud was frozen solid, but so were the ice sheets. And thanks to last night’s dusting, it was very hard to tell the difference between light snow over leaves and instant wipeout. I made it from Pottery to Redway (slowly) and partway into the Ridge before bailing.January 26, 2018 at 10:19 pm #818564

God do I miss mountain biking a few times a week.January 28, 2018 at 9:59 am #818570January 28, 2018 at 10:32 am #818571
Thanks @mcbain. Given the current forecast, is there any day this coming week that might be an option to ride?January 30, 2018 at 6:43 am #818665
Yesterday (Monday) before the snow Crothers looked like a team of horses had gone through – Fossilized Stupidity indeed! This new snow should help smooth things out but could be hiding ice on trails with less exposure. Armour up and enjoy the return of winter!
And for the two riders who did a complete lap of the DJ’s and pump track in Sunday’s mud, well, your reservation for a special place in Hell is now confirmed.January 30, 2018 at 8:34 am #818666

I don’t know what pissed me off more, the rutting throughout the Dj’s or the reaction on that FB group…too many newbs out there!
I think I need to have long convo with the powers that be about signage use, because we could sure use them! The only thing they have against signage is that it formalizes the area to much, and it is situated on “closed land”
We are way to over populated by self serving individuals who have it in their minds that just because they can means they should ride.
We as a community need to get them the message that they are ruining it for all of us especially the builders who get bummed/burned out just making repairs when they could be using their energy creating new stuff to ride.

Boo Trail is pretty much as good as it gets in winter… Fully Fat Bike Packed from end to end. conditions there suggested there’s some ice under a few areas that generally stay wet year round, but otherwise the snow is here and great for riding.January 31, 2018 at 10:30 am #818675
Fatbiking at a dog-friendly pace this morning. Knowing how much ice is lurking beneath I was pleasantly surprised at the traction. But keep in mind I’m rolling 4.6’s at Mach snail! Yesterday’s skinnier tracks looked a little dicey in the corners and off-camber, but snow adhesion has definitely improved.
Crothers / Ridge / Swamp / Woods Gundy / SHT all good
Beaver Flats mostly good with a few spots worth walking
Boo exceptional (except for a weird new icy spot near the washrooms @ Overlea bridge)
Flats – fence wars…
Bummer the clouds obscured the Super Blue sorta Bloody Moon, but this snow will improve the riding! Should be great all week.January 31, 2018 at 1:08 pm #818678
Did a loop from Serena Gundy > Woods > Boo > Beaver Flats > Woods. Everything is covered nicely with the fresh snow. Not too many tracks yet in Woods Gundy and Beaver Flats. Once a few more people get in there should be good traction. For now some ice here and there underneath. This is my first winter with a Fat and loving it. Perfect for taking out the hound and enjoying some winter urban nature. I went for a low speck Norco that didn’t break the bank and could not be happier, Highly recommend!February 3, 2018 at 10:10 am #818695
Any thoughts on trail conditions today? I check out the Loblaws trail head yesterday evening and a guy just coming off the trail reported muddy conditions in a few spots. Surprising considering how cold it was.
