Boo was an icy mess a couple of days ago. If the rest of the valley is like that, it will be treacherous without studs.

Flats are ice skating ring…doable in ninja mode or with spikes-no problem…ridge is mixed with sections of nicely frozen dirt and small ice patches…

Days like this I feel like I’ll never ride the don again.

Anyone been in today to see how the rain and re-freeze is looking? Would love it if it melted some of that ice and then soaked into the ground in time.

Don is great… with spikes. Some of the ridge is surprisingly clear (cricket to poo plant). Boo and the flats as well as sht, Vietnam etc are sheer ice.

This is one of the worst winters since I’ve been riding my bike past Christmas. So much sandpaper today, but almost none of it in the middle of the trail. Hope the warm up ahead gets ride of this pesky glacier.

    Yes, to confirm.
Lower trails have lots of ice. Up above things improve.

    Update on “war on flats”…
They are upping their game… fencing is set on massive concrete blocks… south entrance to the flats.

It’s unfortunate. Maybe a result of all the packing? The trails out this way (Dundas area) have tons of traffic but are all already clear. Maybe a few more days of sun should melt those spots away? One can hope.

Super lame on the concrete. I guess people will just cut the fence now. It’s a war that they won’t win, if history and logic are taken into account. Unfortunately they think this is a good solution, but the amount of traffic the flats see on an average summer day should illustrate the need for a trail there. I’d expect the fence to be gone this week….

Anyone seen if the warm weather has cleaned up the ice on the trails? I’m thinking of riding the Don this weekend if the temperature is low enough to freeze the trails.

It sure has, and taken a lot of the frost with it. I’d not expect conditions to be reasonable without a few days of solid negative temperatures.

I will probably hold off until next weekend. Thanks for the input.

Just finished an early ride at -1.5 temps and the trails look pretty nice.

Ridge, cat, boo, bunny, dirt farm and flats all good, no spikes needed. Lower cat has a few icy spots.

Would not encourage going out unless it’s been below freezing all night. Lots of potential for trail damage. That being said – tons of traction today.

Just got back in, hit catalyst to pa and up to sunnybrook and foreplay. Conditions are pretty good considering but there are some ice patches. Avoid gspot as the first big g out had some big ruts and holes from when it was warmer.

Rode into work today (started at 1020am), most of the trails are nice and hard, but pottery road to one tree island has alot of soft spots. I’m surprised its so soft, I think the sun and lack of windchill are the culprits. My bike was pretty gunked up. Should be good once the sun goes down. I think it will be soft tomorrow and wednesday unless you are out first thing in the morning.

Thinking of riding this evening around 7pm… hopefully the soft spots will will have firmed up. Where is “one tree island” that’s not a name I’m familiar with?
