Smith’s edge is rideable, but soggy in a few places including a pretty decent stretch part way up the switchbacks.
Foreplay was dry this afternoon with very little exception. 100% rideable only a very obvious tree down to avoid before the jump set nearest the dog park.
Road apples back around to Serena Gundy was a swamp in the shade and amazing in the sun. probably not worth the trip currently. CoT is also installing something into the river bank about half way back along the east shore, so a sizeable detour is required to get around that mess.
Boo Trail is solid, just a few soft spots in the shade nearing Cricket tree.
Flats are awesome top to bottom with the usual puddle at Overlea Bridge.
Crothers from Pottery as far as cricket are dry and pretty rutted in the areas that get wet. Tree is still down at the north fork of Easy/Hard Lines, but with a really questionable log over option.April 16, 2015 at 9:52 am #802735
SHT has a huge double mud wallow halfway through… in a spot I don not recall mud in previous years. Perhaps my memory is fading.April 17, 2015 at 5:53 pm #802779
Anyone been in today? Any good?April 17, 2015 at 7:03 pm #802781
Rode a bit today…
Climbmaxxx is pretty decent, one wet spot after the first sender that probably just need a rake and 24hrs to dry.
Boo trail is drying nicely. Wet patch near the frisbee golf? station largely due to leaves.
Flats, Crothers Woods, Ridge are all dry and really quick. (Ride here)
Ice on Cat/PA is nearly gone. A lot of it is dry, but there is still a fairly significant amount of wet… Not the best plan just yet, spent a bunch of time doing “Hike a Bike” to keep from rutting out the tread.
SHT is SHT Entrance is pretty slick and that mud patch is curse words massive, rutted, and unlikely to be dry any time soon. unfortunately not a great connector currently.
Foreplay is good to go, the rain and riding has however executed the already gnarly final descent to the road… Good luck have fun.April 17, 2015 at 7:55 pm #802782
Motown is pristine, returned on Hobo trail which is as bad as last year. Looked across the river at Quads and there’s ice patches on that slope.April 18, 2015 at 6:40 pm #802802
Absolutely epic day out there today. You’d think it was June or July.
Ridge/Crothers/Boo/Vietnam/Motown/SHT (I think that’s the one)/Foreplay/Flats/Climbmaxx/Ejac/Serena Gundy all bone dry, save one little mud pit in Vietnam that has to be walked.
Didn’t venture into Rim Job, Catalyst or Dr. Quads based on previous posts, but will investigate tomorrow after today’s weather.
Get out there before it rains tomorrow night!April 19, 2015 at 9:07 am #802814
A walk through Cat / Rim Job / PA / BOT confirms what others already knew – it’s very good to go. One icy bit at the south end of Pre-Catalyst and one large branch on PA on the first downhill north of the Doobatorium/archery lookout. Bridges are in good shape except the optional one at the Tremco switchbacks. Seems wigglier than last year.
I propose recording this year’s start date as 4/19 (even though the Swamp is squishy, SHT is soft in the middle, and Quads is scary – it always is!). Anyone second the motion?April 19, 2015 at 3:23 pm #802817
Concur. This weeks rain will slick things up again, but currently all the trails are like riding in June/JulyApril 19, 2015 at 9:29 pm #802829
New user here but i have been shredding the Don since 2006. Today I did Catalyst, Boo trail, the Flats, Crothers Woods, Ridge and the Lower Don section near pottery road. All trails are in really good shape, watch out for a few fallen trees on the ridge near the sewage treatment plant. Looking forward to a great season stay safe!April 23, 2015 at 12:21 pm #803002
Weekend update/forecast?April 23, 2015 at 1:10 pm #803004
Anyone been in today? Trail conditions?April 23, 2015 at 6:21 pm #803025
Popped in for a short ride on flats – ridge – crothers – pottery. Normal mud puddles where they usually are, but the trails are mostly grippy. The only spots that aren’t ready are pottery exit and the clay spots on the hardline.April 24, 2015 at 9:48 am #803036
Was in last night With @jcitizen and everything was OK, there was however a mud slide on the “hard” line shortly after the roman wall. I would avoid the “hard “line unless you like walking through 4 inches of mud. Also where the trail comes out onto Redway from Lowblaws there is quit a trench that has been created from the recent rains. Other then that Motown has a bit of tree branches scattered about.April 24, 2015 at 12:33 pm #803039
Kinda greasy. Walking Smith’s Edge this morning I managed a few impromptu sit downs so you may want to give that one a pass. Should be better as the weekend progressses and all the green things drink up the moisture. Trout lilies, bloodroot, mayapples all popping up, and those little blue flowers are in their prime.April 24, 2015 at 2:35 pm #803045
Sounds like things should be good to go tomorrow.
Only trail I haven’t heard a report on (or ridden myself) is Dr. Quads? Anyone done East side of the Don River yet?
