On foot early this morning on the Ridge/Flats and wouldn’t have any qualms riding this loop. Soft in a few places but otherwise ready for business – tomorrow should be great. Can’t speak for Crothers trails – heard a rumour of a new tree down near the Poo Plant stairs on the High/Harder line. Swamp is swampy, of course. Shady side trails like Cat/PA/Rim Job/Woods Gundy still have ice in the shade. Boo is most likely soft in spots too. Today’s sun and wind is just what the doctor ordered.April 11, 2015 at 5:26 pm #802595

Yes, its a big ass tree that you have to go around on the high side… way too big to climb over.
There’s another big ass tree down on the flats right in the middle of the DJs…. guys were working it over with chain saws when I came through this afternoon.
I would agree the southern part of the Don is open for business mostly… some muddy corners here and there north of Loblaws that are best walked but pretty much the rest is ride-able between Pottery Rd and Thorncliff parking lot.April 11, 2015 at 6:09 pm #802596
Rode/walked flats, beaver run(?), sky pilot, rim job, catalyst. Low trails are muddy/spongy, higher trails have dry spots/spongy spots and yes, icy spots at the stream crossings. Sky pilot has bad erosion, there’s a big tree down at the beginning of beaver run/catalyst low exit.April 12, 2015 at 10:38 am #802607
So excited to ride this morning I forgot to eat breakfast. Thankfully the “smart me” had hidden some bars in my hydration pack last fall. Delicious!
Ridge was awesome. Boo Trail is soft in the middle (under the hydro lines by archery) but otherwise ready for rolling. Walked through the Swamp (one way was enough). Woods Gundy was greasy enough to convince me to head back on sunnier trails. Flats also greasy in spots. Tree blocking XC line at DJ’s is cleared – many thanks for that from all who use the trail. Crothers has some horrific spots and the usual clogged drainages but the rest is fine – use common sense.
FYI- I’ve reported the fallen tree (at Easier/Harder intersection east of Poo Plant stairs – blocking both lines) to firstname.lastname@example.org and suggested that CoT workers scrape the drainage now instead of waiting for Stewardship to chip them out in May. That’s enough paperwork for a Sunday! Get out and enjoy the sun. It burns!April 12, 2015 at 11:52 am #802609
Any reports on the Catalyst/Rim Job/Party Atmosphere area, @mcbain ? I suspect it’s a sloppy mess, but I’m curious to know if the ice is gone, at least.April 12, 2015 at 2:57 pm #802611
Nope. Youdidnotseemecrash reported non-ideal conditions in the post before mine. I’ll make a point of walking the pooch there on Tuesday morning and post an update. I want to believe the weather forecast!April 12, 2015 at 3:36 pm #802612
Rode Crowthers/ridge at 8am this morning from pottery to cricket tree. There are a few sloppy spots…
Pottery climb is too sloppy to ride, definitely a place to push or carry your bike. Then there was another sloppy spot at the entry to the crossover at Redway road, at the bottom in that last corner. The S-turn at the sewer works was sloppy in the usual spots. There were also the usual sloppy spots on the other side of millwood road, particularly around that lower skinny. Other than a few other small slick spots, the ridge was in awesome shape.
What I would watch out for is a) the aforementioned fallen tree by the sewer works, the specific location is where the easy and hard trails merge, and b) there is spilled green paint on the high side of the trail after millwood road, near the fallen tree skinny. Looks like oil based paint, definitely not something your want on your bike.April 12, 2015 at 3:47 pm #802613
Walked the dog on Foreplay this afternoon. I can’t imagine that it is going to he in any better shape this season than it is now. Dry and tacky end to end.April 12, 2015 at 3:50 pm #802614
Here’s the exact spot where I saw green paint. The picture is looking South towards millwood road. This morning there was paint strewn all across the trail around this spot. Not clearly visible in the picture I know, phone camera is rubbish, but it’s definitely there. Hopefully it dries up with this warm sun today, that will make clearing of easier.

Things on the south facing slopes around sunny brook were firming up this afternoon, but still not firm enough to not do a ton of damage with the brake or pushing a semi-slick climb. Pretty sure @mcbain is going to be dead on with his predictions around next weekend provided the weather cooperates. One more week to tune your legs and lung!April 12, 2015 at 7:12 pm #802619

Rode/walked flats, beaver run(?)
I describe it as Lower Cat but, sometimes have heard it called The Beaver Flats.April 14, 2015 at 6:38 pm #802679
Rode at 4:45 this afternoon and went north from Pottery road. Trails are very dry and fast. No unrideable sections found and I was on my cross bike. Wednesday should be even better.

That ridge is definitely good to go, though bumpy as hell right now, which is not as fun as I’d like on a rigid.April 15, 2015 at 2:24 pm #802718
Thanks for the update guys! Hoping to hit the trails this Saturday. Hopefully no rain tomorrow 😀
