Ridge, Catalyst and Upper PA: fully ridable but with greasy sections and a few puddles. Full on leaf cover.October 29, 2006 at 2:46 pm #573231
i’m in BC but i can tell ya, if ya go in today- yer nuts- and wear a helmet, watch for falling trees & bring a chainsaw anyway.October 29, 2006 at 4:57 pm #573232
It’s friggin windy, that’s fer sure – shit’s flying against my window, like little sticks and crap. I bet the look of the whole Don will change this weekend – most of the leaves will come down 😉October 29, 2006 at 5:02 pm #573233
And speaking of nuts, I think I’ll scratch mine and go for a ride! Crazy weather can be good for a rush… I’m not religious or anything but it’s kinda like meeting god out on the trails when Mother nature is whoopin’ it up 🙂October 29, 2006 at 5:10 pm #573234

watch out for falling limbs and whole trees.October 29, 2006 at 5:35 pm #573236
Meh… maybe I’ll just have a few treats and then go work on that other bridge then… not quite the day for riding skinnies perhaps? 😉October 30, 2006 at 4:32 pm #573237
Oct 29th @ 1pm, the ridge was really slick and sloppy, quite a few fallen tree limbs and trees.
dirt jumps however were nice and dry.October 30, 2006 at 6:17 pm #573238
Monday Oct 30, 10am-noon
Flats — great, very little leaf cover, getting faster as it opens up and the blind corners disappear
PA/Catalyst — good, some of the switchbacks a bit slick but otherwise not wet apart from the entry. 100% leaf cover in places.
Ridge — very good, some of the climbs so slick I couldn’t make them but some of you studs probably will. 100% leaf cover in places making it hard to see roots/rocks. Again dryer than I expected.
Leaves are dry rather than greasy so they are not a traction problem.
NB if you are heading home south down the Don recreation trail it is now closed at the Riverdale Zoo bridge all the way to Lakeshore. You can get past the fence but you can’t get up the Queen St. Bridge so you have to go through a hole in the fence just north of Queen and hop the tracks. If you continue south of Queen it is getting rather overgrown and is eventually completely blocked just north of the Gardiner.October 30, 2006 at 6:18 pm #573239
Oh, and surprisingly no fallen trees/branches at all.October 31, 2006 at 9:54 pm #573240
PA and Catalyst both seem to be fine – leafy (duh) but not much mud and pretty dry. Do yourself a favour and give Catalyst a ride soon – with the elevation and lack of leafs, the views are amazing!!!November 1, 2006 at 7:48 pm #573241
PA,Catalyst,Ridge and the Flats were all in great condition today. I hadn’t been in for a while until today but I think Catalyst with the exception of that messy switchback at the north end is probably the best it’s been all year right now. I found the leaves almost made it easier. The rest of the week is supposed to be sunny (about time) so things should only get better. 😀November 1, 2006 at 11:29 pm #573242
Wed morning: Flats & Catalyst were great. Maybe I was just too bagged but PA seemed really greasy to me. The leaves seem to have sucked up some of the moisture and gotten slimy or something.
Was that one of you guys on PA around 10.30 am? Or the guy who looked at my clanking rear wheel on the bridge? I was riding a tang-colored 29er.November 2, 2006 at 2:05 am #573243
Nope, you weren’t bagged, PA was indeed greasy 🙂
