thanks for the info, wonder if they are going to return the area to a better ecological state when they are done?

Good to know the Authorities kept the Stewardship and Stakeholder communities updated. Way to go guys.

A friend at TRCA says construction will last all summer, that “bikers should avoid the area“,
and they “look forward to big community tree planting events in the fall”.

As to whether Sun Valley and other affected trails will be restored,
“that is yet to be determined, and up to the City; the natural habitat is definitely the priority.”

Don’t worry riders, someone will take care of it for you. It’s all under control. Trust us. (!)

    Somebody dropped the fucking ball.

Maybe it’s time to start asking questions of the contacts we have in City Hall.

geez, if there were a grassroots community group that wanted to work with City Hall and landowners to represent rider interests,
boy, we’d really have something here in Toronto.

    huh. Guess not.

oh, staying on topic…it’s a freakin’ mire in there. Riding home across the Leaside Bridge i could see the river was really high and full of debris.
and the Ridge Trail was a clear muddy brown line snaking across the ridge. Don’t even approach the Don anytime soon!

    hi Timmy!

i think he means – ‘how dare they disrupt our rides. they should stick a new pipe somewhere else or fix the thing thru mined tunnels. bastards!’

enjoy the Thursday Night Dart Session, eh. 😉

Nope, this was known about for a while, I’m pretty sure I had heard about this from VV or maybe someone else, maybe even Claire at the last trail clean up (?).

SKid’s right, it was mentioned at the IMBA trail care crew sessions / builds
which only a few riders from this forum attended…
a handful of ppl knew about it…but if the handful of ppl that did know about it diddn’t communicate with other ppl about it…
then ya, the ball was dropped. or more like the word was kept silent. but don’t hate…
knowledge is power, and knowledge is only useful if it’s shared. power is…hmmmm….
    anyhoo…moving on…
will report on construction, flooding & windfall after this afternoon’s hike.

You guys are misunderstanding my post – I’m not slagging anyone here or in the riding community at all.

The person who “dropped the ball” in my opinion is City Hall – they appropriate all kinds of money to redo the trails in Crother’s, then they dig them up to put a sewer line through half a year later? Seems pretty stupid to me.

Def wasn’t b read, he’s a fair weather cupcake rider, that wouldn’t be
caught dead out in even moderate temps!!!

    Hope the rider was okay.

The CoT has not dropped anything here, neither has the Don valley’s users. Maintianence of infrastucture is mandatory. The route of the digging has the least impact on the environment and has little impact on riding thru the area. The builders of all the new trails are a different CoT dept complete with their own budget. Their efforts have enhanced riding in the Don and will go even further in ’09.

    Cheers

Started to get muddy in sections after 10 am . And without studs some areas are pretty icy .
