Conditions are like July in there! Downright dusty in many places.
Really greening up and filling in – watch those blind corners, give a shout or ring a bell – came up quickly on a few walkers last night.May 27, 2015 at 10:14 pm #803988
Tree down just South of Dundas.
We trimmed up what we could with the pack saw tonight but the the trunk is still across the trail. Need to get back in and take care of that.May 30, 2015 at 9:20 pm #804036
Tree down on the east side between Burnhamthorpe and the green stairs. The crown landed across the trail so it’s going to be a royal pain to clear it out. I didn’t get a good look at it since it was getting dark, but it looks like it’s beyond what I have the tools to handle.June 4, 2015 at 8:35 am #804191
Near perfect dirt! Felt like you could climb anything – loads of grip.
Got rid of a few low hanging branches and cleared one freshly fallen tree just South of Dundas – yeah pack saw!June 7, 2015 at 7:21 pm #804228
First time on my Tallboy in there and was pretty impressed with it. Ikon tires are exceeding expectations for a small block tire. Rode at 20psi and had great traction.
Trails were mint. So good!June 9, 2015 at 5:30 pm #804274
Glad we got in there before this rain.
Think it will be good for Wednesday ride?June 10, 2015 at 8:39 am #804277
Hmmm. Good question – will likely also depend on the weather today, calling for Thunderstorms.
@aerius any insight on conditions?June 10, 2015 at 1:10 pm #804321
I did a shop ride with the guys from Oxygen Bikes last night and it wasn’t nearly as bad as expected. There’s a number of greasy spots where the bikes go sliding but in general the trails were firm enough that we were barely leaving any tire tracks. I’d say a good 70% of it was hero dirt, and many parts looked like they hadn’t even been rained on.
Hard to say how it’ll be like today, we just had a thunderstorm go through that dumped a bunch of rain and even some hail on the ground. I’ll see if I can get out for a trail check in the next 4-5 hours.June 10, 2015 at 5:15 pm #804326
East side of the north loop looks like a no go, west side has the usual mud spots but is otherwise fine. I’m guessing the south section is probably fine other than the places where the dirt bikes left giant ruts & mud holes earlier in the spring.June 10, 2015 at 6:09 pm #804327
Looking out my window and thinking any hopes for tonight just went down the drain.June 10, 2015 at 6:11 pm #804328
And game over. Thunderstorms & heavy rain in my area (I’m less than a 5 minute ride from the trails).June 10, 2015 at 6:14 pm #804329
Just started down here as well…. boo!June 11, 2015 at 3:06 pm #804356
I stretched out my urban loop today and dropped into the creek climbing back up to my place to do a bit of recon. It wasn’t as bad as I though it would be but I probably should have been in there. There are some largely unaffected sections but a few very wet areas with deep puddles. Also a few eroded parts as well as newly fallen trees. I was on the CX bike and it went well but definitely had a few “oh shit” moments today. With tomorrow’s rain, I think we’re looking at Sunday for things to be ridable again in there. I jumped back out at Rathburn as @fietser had told me it would be even worse in the northern loop.
Good news is my urban loop was fun. I am looking to eventually continue up the Creek to Derry and across to the Humber trails which would almost double this and be a lot of fun with little road time. Might be a fun group ride this fall.June 16, 2015 at 8:24 am #804437
The motorbike kids are having a field day in the trails. Some ruts are the size of the grand canyon. Some parts of the trail are just a wall of vegetation. The red ants and mosquito’s are out of control. I think we had enough rain all ready.June 18, 2015 at 1:37 am #804541
The only decent part right now is between Rathburn & Eglinton, everything else is a mess with all the rain that’s been dumped on us. The north section near the 401 is about knee deep in water, looks like the creek overflowed and flooded out all the lower areas. We’re basically back to early spring conditions, except with a lot more vegetation and overgrown trails.
