Just finished riding a full loop of all the trails, its all good to go. West side of the Dundas loop is actually dry and even the part that’s torn up by jeeps has a dry line all the way through. The only messy spots are the ruts on the east side of the Eglinton loop and the swamp near the 401, but even those aren’t bad right now. Oh yeah, the benchcut on the last part of the Matheson-401 section is pretty much gone, you’ll either have to walk it or trust your tires to hold on the slope.

I just discovered that 401/Matheson trail my last time out.
I wondered if I had missed something while going across that slope.lol
I’ll have to be upping my fitness level if I’m going to add that trail my usual ride.

Hey @allantats glad you found it. It is a great little section of trail, beautiful in the fall with all the big Maples in there.

Rode the West side of the South trail up to Dundas last night and it is all clear. Still tight and punchy before crossing over the tracks but very rideable. Beautiful night for riding, great for clearing my head.

@prestomtb showed us a section that has been built up into quite the little park in there – interesting. Did one of the lines that sports a double log drop.

Get in before the rain on the weekend!

I haven’t ridden the west side yet. Maybe I’ll get in there this weekend depending on the weather.
Is this little park area easily seen? I think that local guy fastimes and I were talking to a couple of weeks ago was doing some building on the west side. That’s probably what he meant.

    Hi everyone.

As we all know the weather has not been ideal for riding this weekend. After spending my Saturday ride time cleaning and lubing my bikes I decided to use my Sunday ride time to gear up and do some trail work.

So I began by smashing the chunk of concrete that has been blocking the trail south of Dundas. that section is now clear to ride.

Then I went up to the Matheson loop and repaired the bench cut that got washed out this past winter.

Then i went a little further south to the area where the garbage pile is and i trenched out, and buried a drain under the trail in an attempt to drain that swampy pond that just breeds mosquitoes and causes the base of that hill to be a sloppy mess after rains.

I’ve been trying to attach photos, I’m just not that smart.

Thanks so much @braindamaged REALLY appreciate that. I have had my shovel in the back of the car for a week wanting to get in and bench cut that sections. Thanks for doing this as well as the other hard work.

I have the rungs to repair the broken bridge in my car as well and hoping to get out soon to fix this before it gets worse. Hopefully there are still only the two that need to be replaced? I haven t been in due to the wet weather.

    Again, thanks for the work!

PS. If I can help with pictures let me know. You can always just upload to the photo page and I will post them for ya.

I rode pretty much everything today and just came on to see who had been doing the trail maintenance.
    Thanks braindamaged that is awesome!
Rode the west side up to Dundas but I just don’t seem to have the skills to make that a good flowing ride. I find myself having to get off the bike too often.
FastTimes I think there may now be 3 rails missing on that bridge. There were 2 in a row and one further back if i recall. Thanks in advance if/when you do get to it!
I had some resistance from the rear free hub on my bike so for convenience I dropped it off @ Oxygen.
I may buy some tools and maintain it myself from here.
I think I’ll just be on my Jake for the next week or so, so everyone enjoy the long weekend.

Hey @allantats hope you get your bike sorted out!

I agree that the West side does not have nearly the flow that the East side does but it is nice for a change from time to time. I actually rode the whole loop in reverse the other day. It always amazes me how different a well known trail can feel when your ride it the other way.

I was a little late for the Weds night ride and since no one had posted that they were riding I ended up just taking my time and pruning back some of the worst offenders hanging over the trail on the South section, still needs more work but focused on some of the areas where visibility is poor. I also took the time to cut out one of the larger bell ringers about half way up the trail. There are still a bunch (much larger) that need to see the sharp end of the saw but they will require a little more work and perhaps a hand.

I just rode the north loop this evening.

There is now four broken rails on the bridge, I wonder is someone is intentionally breaking them? I done see how they could be breaking otherwise.

Thanks Fietser for the pruning, I’ve had the same desire to cut back the new growth.

Motorcycles. I haven’t caught them in the act yet, but I’ve seen a number of dirt bike tracks on that section of trail.

I managed to get some more work done on the north loop this weekend.

I focused my efforts on removing the organic debris and correcting the drainage along the ridge on the east side north of Eglinton. Where I could I also armoured the trouble spots with stones. As long as we don’t go out and ride in the super wet the water should drain off a lot better now.

I didn’t touch the one section where somebody built those four tightly spaced humps, these do confuse me a bit. They are to close to properly pump through and they have made horrible low spot that just won’t drain properly.

Also someone, I think fast times got in and repaired the broken slats on the wooden bridge. thank you for that.

Went in and chopped out the fallen tree that was blocking the low line just south of Matheson. You can now take the cliff side path going south without the hanging log in the way. Also did a bit of trimming on the worst face whackers.

Those tightly spaced humps by the low spot are terrible, whoever built them dug out the hollow even more so it’s now a swamp that never drains. They can’t be jumped or pumped, so if I don’t get to them soon, feel free to flatten them out and fill in the low spot.

And once again, thank you to everyone working on the trails!

Decided to head in a ride the whole enchilada, door to door, top to bottom. T-storm was in the forecast for 2pm but thought I’d have time. Was calling for the same yesterday on my shoot but never happened. Figured I’d roll the dice today. Even took off my Schwalbe Noby Nics and tossed on my Maxxis Ikon tires.

The ride south was pretty fun.

The skies opened up once I got back to the northern loop. I was at my bail out point at Rathburn but pushed on.

You haven’t lived until you’ve ridden clay based trails with hardpack tires in a thunderstorm. Exhilarating!

Was epic. No regrets. A lot of water fell but it was bone dry so should be good by tomorrow aft.

Just rode it top to bottom. Conditions are good other that some nasty ruts and very badly overgrown areas, mainly in the northern loop.

Thanks to the person who dug out these terrible jumps and fixed the drainage through this section.

Be great to have a group go through and trim back the overgrown areas.
