I think the majority of CX riders in the Don ride to improve their technical skills on their CX bike. You won’t gain any material fitness benefits riding CX on the singletrack.
I sometimes ride my CX bike in the Don, but only as a new challenge when I feel like i need to #MakeTheDonHardAgain
I think riding a rigid bike can help you ride a little lighter, but I think it’s mostly done for the enjoyment the simplicity of a rigid fork.
As for loops, most stick to ridge/boo/oob/flats, but everything is technically “rideable” on a CX bike depending on how scared you want to be.
