Ok guys, I appreciate all the hard work on the new trail updates (Haole) and generally the long term plans for gravity riding at blue mountain. (weekly race series is fantastic grass roots initiative) However, I do have some suggestions that would improve the “user experience” if you will.

    1. Need more accurate trail updates, via the website, (not facebook, not twitter… the website that does require sign up) both in terms of currency and outlook. Perhaps giving the head trail crew member a smart phone and access. Bring your social feeds all in one spot may also be advantageous. I suggest the mountain conditions report page that outlines what trails are open.

    2. Update the available downhill trails to accurately reflect the trails that will be open this year or at least projections for the week or month they will open. There is allot of speculation regarding a number of trails, most of which represent the heart of the membership riders. This would include Squeaker, waterfall, big-sleeze, and showcase. If these trails are not going to open soon/this year/ever again, then you need to communicate this to your membership. Ideally this would happen before the season, but given there are variables you cannot control, such as winter/weather/run offs, etc then you need to communicate this as early as possible and definitely before opening day. Example 1: “Squeaker is closed for good” Result: Remove the trail from the list of available trails on the website. Example 2: “Squeaker will not be open this year” Result: Leave the trail on the list of available trails, and for its status, explain why ..”Squeaker is closed for the 2013 season because of run off in the valley / installing new lifts for money making skiiers / won’t get to it, but trail will reopen the first week of June for the 2014 season”

With improved communication it would likely manage customer expectations a bit more, and cut down on the “why can’t blue open fully by mid season when whistler, this park, this park, this park… are all open fully a month earlier ” OR “If I had known limited black trails would open this year, I may not have purchased a membership seeing that it requires 4 hrs of drive time to get there” …

I am a believer in blue mountain and have been riding there since 1999, and a membership holder for roughly half that time, and over the years we have seen lots of ups and downs. Generally, I still love a day at blue riding and socializing, but this year in particular I feel more frustration then in years past, partly because my expectations were built up during the off season and I was excited to get my pass and get out on the hill. I am still am stoked to ride, and hope to get my money’s worth this year, but I will admit that even though I live in Barrie.. I am riding elsewhere (DH) more often (even if I pay out of pocket each time) rather then waiting for trail updates or for more trails to open.

Lastly, although very busy with work and family, I don’t believe in criticizing if not willing to help, so with that in mind, I am open to participation in regards to planning or internal “fund raising” proposals if such help is required / wanted. Happy trails y’all

Fantastic post and suggestions. I think this sums up in a very kind way how a lot of people are feeling.

I bought a pass for the first time this year, in part because I was really excited about the new trails in addition to older favourites such as squeeker, waterfall, showcase, etc. Blue could definitely be more forthcoming about when/if these trails will be opening, and why. I understand there are priorities for trail work, and Blue really delivered in opening Haole on time, but it would be great to let the ridership know more about long term plans for all trails (current and new), and realistic opening times for existing trails this summer.

This is a great suggestion and has been a long time request over the years. I am happy to setup a ‘Daily Trail Conditions‘ thread like we have for the Don. This way Blue as well as all riders could help to share conditions.

Thanks for the feedback. We’re always looking for ways to improve communication with the riders. I’ll take these suggestions to our Operations and Marketing team to come up with a plan of action for improvement.

good stuff, me and my wife are riding regulars and try to get up every chance we have. one thing i would like see if possible is a hotel discount for season pass holders to the park. it would just make the drive so much easier if one could spend the night.

would love to see some trail tlc on shotglass and grab bag. with squeaker and the sleaze shut down some trails are getting a lot more use.
