Is anyone here into this? Have any routes to share?

I’ve done the west 50 km of the park to park trail and some km’s of logging roads in algoquin park by myself.
It would be fun to have a group of others to ride with…

I’m interested in seeing if there any routes in the GTA or a few hours drive.

Haven’t done any overnight self supported but have finished Cranks the Shield twice. I think a barrier for most people will be the additional and pretty specialized gear you’d want to have (frame bags, big saddle bag…)

Anyone else got thoughts on this?

I’m looking into some forest service roads and atv trails around the Queen Elizabeth II Wildlands Provincial Park, I’ve backpacked the area several times and there is tons of potential…

No doubt that newer gear solves some issues and can be an investment, I don’t have any of it yet as I use a rack and set of panniers that I already have. Really anyone with some lighter camping gear and some ingenuity can put together a good overnight setup.

Hey, I’m interested in doing some trips. I’ve mostly figured out how to pack things by lashing dry bags to my bike frame and carrying a day pack.

I’m in the process of moving out of the GTA up to the Ottawa Valley, so Algonquin trips are on my horizon, but I thought that bikes were not allowed on the logging roads in the park. If that’s not the case, it would be an option for sure.

The logging roads are still restricted to only foot travel but I would go again, I think that algonquin really doesn’t want people to see what goes on beyond the hill and tree line…

I’ve hiked the east arm of the Western Uplands backpacking trail and think it would be a great bike packing route, mostly flat old logging roads and though still not legal to bike if done in the fall I doubt anyone would notice.

Would you be up to planing a trip this fall Dean ? Gram ?

    Gram,

No chance for me to do anything before Nov 2nd at the very best. I am in BC for the last 12 days of this month, and with Thanksgiving sneaking up, I just won’t have much time before my trip.

Had you looked at routes at all?

    Hey!

Bikepacking in Ontario is something that has occupied my curiosity for a while now.

It seems as though if one was willing to risk whatever would happen if someone found you on an Algonquin logging road one could ride from Peterborough along chunk of the COLT system of rail trails (a 450km loop in itself!) all the way into the park.

I’d also be interested in a trying some shorter overnighters as well!
