The Toronto Off-Road Cycling Association (TORBA) represents the interests of mountain bikers and other off-road cyclists in Toronto. This includes advocacy work, trail building, and trail stewardship, particularly of the multi-use unpaved trail system in the Don Valley.
Born and raised in Toronto’s pastoral Hogg’s Hollow, McBain cut his off-road cycling teeth riding around and in the Don River. Now living and teaching in Toronto but in need of daily doses of “outside”, he and his family are Don Valley regulars – on foot, bike, skis, snowshoes, toboggan and skates.
A recent ‘fatbike’ convert, I enjoy pushing my mental and physical limits in the harsh winter months. From Marathon XC Fatbike Races, to winter ‘ultra-endurance events,’ I love riding when other people are cuddled in their blanket. In the warmer months, my passion lies with long-track XC racing and gravel-grinding. Whichever bike I can throw a leg over is a good one, but it ought to be fast and comfortable. The longer I am out on two wheels, the better.
