The Pursuits Program at Georgian Bay Community School in Meaford is the culmination of those pilot programs, now a polished four-credit integrated curricular program for grade 11 and 12 students. To help support this worthwhile endeavour spearheaded by GBCS’s Ian Carr, Mountain Life–Blue Mountains is stoked to present the second annual Pursuits Film Festival on Friday, January 12 at the Meaford Hall Arts & Cultural Centre. Doors open at 6pm, presentations begin at 7pm.
Join us for an evening of adventure films that celebrate sport and the outdoors, as well as a silent auction, guest speaker, and a short film produced by the Pursuits students themselves.
The evening is sponsored by Meaford Hall & Culture Foundation, the Kearns Paara Group and the Corner Cafe & Grill. And guest speaker Leslie Timms will offer her insights on climbing and pushing the limits of exploration. Leslie is an Ontario-born climber, an Arc’teryx Athlete, a Professional Climbing Guides Institute board member, and the first Ontarian woman to climb a 5.14 grade.
In its inaugural year, the Pursuits Film Festival was attended by over 200 people and raised $4,000 for the program. For 2018, the festival will again feature a silent auction, door prizes, good company, food, and cheer—with all proceeds going to support outdoor leadership and exploration for local youth.

Directed by Darcy Turenne, The Moment was recently selected as the closing gala film at the 2017 Whistler Film Festival, and tells the story of three small crews of adventurers that secretly altered the course of mountain biking in the remote backwoods of British Columbia by challenging the status quo and turning the sport of cycling onto its head.
UNDER AN ARCTIC SKY
Knowingly heading into the worst winter storm to hit Iceland in the last 25 years, six surfers set sail to explore the northern reaches of the island, battling stormy seas and constant darkness to discover the perfect wave—and to make history by becoming the first to surf under the fabled Northern Lights.
