I couldn’t stomach paying for a quality bike specific light as I want good lighting for camping, hunting, fishing and in general around the farm. So I opted for a pair of Suprabeam Q7XR. 1000lumen flashlight that adjusts between wide and flood… stupid bright (will illuminate upwards of a 1000ft as a spot), rechargeable LiPo (I think), at full…[Read more]
Given the challenges that face the LBS it surprises me that many still are closed on weekend days, especially Sunday, or have reduced hours.
It just strikes me as odd in a market where the goods sold no longer differentiate, but the service and accessibility are what keeps the doors open that shops are open during regular weekday business hours…[Read more]
I’ve been hesitant to buy a new bike – standards/hyper innovation – but given this year is numero 40 on the birthday calendar I’m saying screw it and treating myself with some new wheels. Back is feeling good, got some good trainer time in… daddy deserves a new toy.
It’s ON, but I like to play and be able to roam a bit without worrying about…[Read more]
Thank you sir, I didn’t realize this was changed. Good retraction if a dumb (PR wise) move.
The tire size thing was just irksome. The amount of trail currently covered with packed ice is the real problem. Manual grooming kept it somewhat in check, the machine opened the floodgates.
Hiked Durham last weekend and most of the trails are packed with ice. I doubt things have changed given the low overnight temps and tree cover.
I used to love getting out early after a thaw/freeze, but with so much winter trail traffic these days there’s fewer trails available until later in spring.
I get the appeal to ride all year, just wish…[Read more]
@fasttimes Enjoy Cali! The Kickr climb system is pretty sweet. Necessary? hardly, but super cool.
I just started a base program. So hard to stay on it… I’ve never trained at specific output levels, it’s a learning curve for sure! I always seem to ride around 85rpm and I’ve quickly learned I’m stuck in no-man’s land, and now using a heart rate…[Read more]
Thanks a lot guys! @soban @nevillepark
I’m currently running an older CycleOps Fluid 2. It does the trick, but I have noticed that keeping the tire pressure perfectly consistent is key to getting good stats to monitor training results.
So, down to the Flux or the Elite Direto, which is rated to be a bit quieter, accurate power reading, and 4%…[Read more]
@fasttimes – what are running for a trainer? I’m looking for feedback on smart trainers…. more like someone to talk me out of the Tacx Neo tech porn and reassure me that the Flux is more than enough. Just hearing my buddy’s bike sound like the terrain when we spin together online is so cool…
Cycle ops fuid to hit the buy sell soon… ha!
After almost a year on the sidelines due to back injury I am finally spinning the legs on a trainer and it feels great. Back is not 100%, but I’m learning ways to keep active and avoid further aggravation.
I hate spinning, but will admit that Zwyft provides enough crumbs to keep me going. Did my first spin with a buddy and it was pretty cool,…[Read more]
While I totally agree with DMBA re:paying for trail access I can’t help but wonder how much the landlord is asking? I believe snowmobile clubs in the area pretty much get one or a couple of free trail passes for the season. Pretty nominal amount.
On the flip side, with summer season access we limit the crop potential of the land, and the outside…[Read more]
This winter is all about rehab and recovery.
I’ve had a nagging back injury for years and this spring it flared up to the point I could not ignore it any longer. Haven’t turned the pedals since early summer and don’t expect to turn wheels on dirt again until next year.
First three vertebrae essentially do not flex, piriformis/sciatica causing…[Read more]
I’m contemplating a phone mounting system that will work for both MTB, road bike and, ideally, street moto. Quad lock seems to be the way to go… but my concern is whether that extended connection dampens or exaggerates vibration/bumps? also, how is the case and system overall in crashes? Did a back slide on my phone once – that didn’t feel great…[Read more]
I know there is lots of hate on eMTBs and I’m with it when it comes to off road trails. But, I’ve been going downtown a bit lately and see the odd commuter on an eMTB or eCruiser making decent time up the hills without breaking a sweat. Honestly, if I lived in an urban area I’d totally get an ebike for commuting purposes. I sweat like a sumo…[Read more]
Haha, sounds awesome!
You’re local trails still rad… and I find anytime I’ve returned from out west my riding on the local trails is more fun, more aggressive and generally better… which helps keep them rad!
I would assume so. I can’t recall a span of more than 36hrs without rain in the past month. but being mostly isolated t-showers, hard to say what the conditions are up there. Hopefully a local will post a reply.
