FYI – this flyer showed up in my mailbox yesterday and a matching sign has been posted on the hill down from Horner.
It says the trail will remain open on evenings and weekends – I hope so because this is…[Read more]
Ha, Outside Van, drool…. we saw quite a variety of ‘rigs’ out West this Summer that had made the trek across the country. Those are by far the cat’s meow!
We opted for the Outback due to the 3.6 vs. the older 2.5 or 2.0XT in the Forester (the new 2.5 wasn’t out yet). Fully loaded with people and gear we felt that the extra ponies would come…[Read more]
Hey @sangerasongsong – training! Ha, probably not the best person to ask about training. My training ‘regime’ is not exactly what I would call very regimented. I don’t have Strava or any other ride/ fitness apps. Quantitative training data isn’t exactly something that turns my crank so to speak. The other reality is that I choose not to ma…[Read more]
If you want to race – race. I for one don’t have much interest in racing. The whole premise of an experience for me is actually, well, experiencing. I think you are on the right (single)track by doing the experience in a self-guided manner with some good buddies.
My last two trips out West have loosely followed the BCBR in that we arrived a d…[Read more]
Haven’t been out for a bit but these updates are great.
A call about that tree above the stairs will likely result in removal – I had a tree removed from the top part of that trail (just on the other side of the tennis courts) by Forestry previously, so yeah, call it in and give them the coordinates.
All for moving that up-line I think the con…[Read more]
Love to see all the work being done! @fasttimes I hear you about the socks… I have fairly strict laundry instructions regarding this issue.
I ‘hope’ to bring my son out to the Northern section for his first ride on those trails tonight! Haven’t been up past Eglington in forever so looking forward to enjoying some of the hard work that has been…[Read more]
Got out last night and despite the rain event we had the other day trails were in great shape. The drainage that was put in has done great things for the trail South of Dundas. We should make sure it gets cleared out before the snow flies.
Went back to Bloordale to finish up the trail through there. Noticed that the large downed Willows have…[Read more]
Clearly a big and difficult decision @fasttimes – I know it has been on your mind for some time now I have to get the App I suppose 😉
rant/ This. Probably not the spot to discuss this but it chaps my ass to see shops boasting proximity to trails, pointing customers to the trails, hosting shop rides and doing nothing to support/ acknowledge t…[Read more]
First time out on the local track since May – made it up to Eglington before looping back. Running awesome, thanks for all the work keeping it that way.
Read the notes re: Bloordale trail and since I prefer to use this section of trail over the paved portion (too busy) I took the time to tackle that tree @allantats mentioned. Got it mostly c…[Read more]
Primo out there last night. Southern section is and a huge shout out to @carpetbomber (and perhaps others) who have been working hard to tame the mange! Ran into him when we were both out cleaning up debris/branches after the last wind storm. Feel free to give them a virtual high five or better yet, if you see them on the trail, some much…[Read more]
Darn @fasttimes – yes I forgot about that at the bottom (probably because you can hop over it – but it isn’t ideal for the flow). I agree it is a little more than my hand saw, or arms, can handle.
Back in the saddle last night (finally)!
My buddy and I made it up as far as Eglinton. A few observations:
1. The moisture and heat have resulted in a growth explosion – managed to hand prune some low visibility corners but I imagine after this hot spell the ‘shaggy mane’ will need even more cutting back – be careful on blind corners, give a…[Read more]
Re: Construction on QEW Bridge
Well, that is sub-optimal…
@carpetbomber good running into you last night. Thanks again for your efforts. Hope to be back in the saddle and on the trail this week!
Curious to know where was the trail blocked this time?
I too am worried about construction blocking the Southern portion of the trail at some point. My understanding is that the access under the bridge will…[Read more]
Out with a buddy last night and the weather (and trails) were sublime. The drainage work and armouring that was done last year has really helped! Needs more in some places, but that is another story.
Cleared/ opened up the Bloordale sidetrail from post storm blow down and debris. There was a huge Spruce down right at the beginning which is now…[Read more]
Hmmm, very interesting indeed.
Last Wednesday I was in riding with a buddy (just a quick rip up to Dundas and back). Anyway, on the way back we spent some time tuning up a couple of drainage spots just South of there and we met an older guy who was walking his dog. We made mention of the Moto ruts (which we were fixing) and he said he was…[Read more]
Don’t ride more than 1:30 hours after sunrise (trails start to thaw) and not until 2:00 hours after sunset (trails start to refreeze).
We are still seeing temps dip below freezing at night so if this trend continues this advice will hold true.
