I rode in Durham today on the DMBA demo Norco Bigoot which does not have studded tires and it was no problem at all. You do have to be wary of the ice, mostly in Ogre & Out and Missing Link. Basically where ever the trails go through stands of pine there is a likely chance of encountering some ice.
For the most part though it is just great.…[Read more]

Update on conditions on Durham Forest. Despite the rain and mild temps, trails are still snow covered and surprisingly very little ice.
Most of the single track has been groomed since @FastTimes was there on Wednesday so expect to have a stellar ride if you venture out to our neck of the woods. -

I had a set that I picked up after a nasty fall and they worked great. Especially on glare ice. You do have to ride like you are on ice though but they will go up icy hills that you couldn’t walk up. Like EnduroRider said though, absolutely no help in deep snow.

You would think so with all the packing that the trails get over the winter but I don’t think it really changed when we could ride in the spring over the last couple of years in Durham Forest. Of course that could be different year to year with amount of snow, number of bikers packing the tread etc..
This year could be a good test of whether…[Read more]

DMBA are going to be out this evening grooming the single track in Durham Forest.
Here are the details;
We’ve got some fresh snow that needs grooming, so that we can keep the winter trails at a fun width. Jus bring your snowshoes and some sort of light.
Every volunteer will have an entry into the draw for a Norco Big Foot fat bike donated by…[Read more] -

@FastTimes, Durham should be good if not great. I was there for a 2.5 hour ski this morning and the groomed trails were pretty firm. What fat tire treads that I did come across were all of the non rutted kind. I did bump into one biker and he said for the most part the trails were epic. They will only get firmer with more traffic.
There was…[Read more]

Durham update. 14 snowshoers opened up some more single track for the fatties. We went over Ogre & Out as well as Logs Over Easy again. They will be awesome on the fat bikes now. Nice and packed.
Maple Gravey and the Pines all the way to the end got two passes with the tires and snowshoes. It isn’t as packed as Ogre and Logs Over but with…[Read more]

@Whynot, the grooming events are posted on the DMBA Facebook page. I will try to remember to post them here as well so between @FastTimes and myself we should get the message out.
Like @FastTimes mentioned, the tires are left in the forest if anyone wants a good cardio workout on a non DMBA grooming night. You would need to supply the rope to…[Read more]

Another perk for being a DMBA member. You could win a Norco Bigfoot fat bike.
As an incentive this year to get more volunteers out grooming trails, the DMBA is giving away a Norco Bigfoot fat bike that the really cool people at Live To Play Sports (Norco Bicycles) donated on behalf of the local Norco dealers. To win this bike you need to be a…[Read more]

With the first good dump of the season, the DMBA crew will be out grooming the single track in Durham Forest tuesday evening. We will be dragging tires and snowshoeing to compact the snow. It is a fairly heavy snow so it should compact nicely.
For anyone interested in helping we are meeting at the main parking lot at Durham Forest at 7:00 pm.

Durham Rider replied to the topic DMBA Global Fat Bike Day Ride in the forum YORK, DURHAM AND THE HILLS OF HEADWATER 4 years, 1 month ago
The DMBA Global Fat Bike Day ride was a great success. We had 75 Fat, Plus and skinny bikes on the ride.
It was very cool to stand to the side and have 74 bikes stream by. It will be hard to top this one next year for the 6th edition of Global Fat Bike Day, but we will try. - Load More
