2012 O-Cup Downhill Preliminary Schedule

January 25, 2012

The Ontario Cycling Association is pleased to announce the 2012 O-Cup Downhill Preliminary Schedule. The schedule has some great additions to the series, acknowledging that the downhill membership wanted something new for this season. The O-cup series has a brand new organizer for 2012 who is committed to making the 2012 season something that exceeds Ontario downhill racer’s expectations.

The start of the season is going to kick off at a familiar place — Horseshoe Resort. Situated on a brand new side of the mountain, this should offer riders a fresh experience with the resort as a backdrop. Sir Sam’s, the second event of the series, will provide good racing and camping. The venue host is encouraging us get creative with the mountain; a blank canvas to work with on the hill is sure to result in a great course.

One month later we are going to Ontario’s biggest vertical drop, Blue Mountain. This venue will satisfy everyone simply due to its sheer size in comparison to other Ontario venues. Twinned with series organizer Jon’s team of experienced trail builders, this stop in the series is sure to be a hit.

With the aim of changing things up for 2012, Jon decided to hold the Provincial Championships at Camp Fortune. Being a fan favourite, this venue will truly be a great draw in the search for this year’s provincial champion.

The last race of the season, which not listed on the calendar will be on the last weekend of September and will provide a more relaxed and casual atmosphere. As everyone comes back together at Sir Sam’s, the focus will be on having a good time as a season send off.

  1. Whooot!!

  2. Looks good!!

  3. Everything sounds super great! I’m glad to see it all came together. But am I the only person who will miss Kelso? 🙁

  4. It is sad to see it go, but Kelso is hard to work with as far as building a new trail being a concervation area. One goal for 2012 was new trails for each race to keep it fresh and new. The race coarse there is tired and needs atleast a year off.

  5. Yeah! Rad! Looks like I might be make most of these days.

  6. So excited for this season to start! Thanks to everyone involved with making it happen, you guys rock!

  7. Absolutely fantastic! Sounds great and really looking forward to it.

Thanks for all of the work put forth to make this come together!

Quick question – any chance there will be a minima cat at Camp Fortune this year? Maybe too early to know but it would be great if it’s possible.

  8. Dave, I am not 100% positive and will let Tuf Rack or one of the ODRA guys field this one. I think there is possibly an issue with the Quebec federation. Sure Jeff or someone else will chime in. Cheers,

  9. Sweet, looking forward to getting back into DH racing next year!

  10. Quebec rules don’t allow minime rider to race DH. Being the race is in Quebec we have to follow there rules. For 2012 we are working hard with the OCA to have the race follow Ontario rules, meaning there will be minime racing there even it its a slightly altered coarse. Its in the works and we are trying but no answer yet. Stay tuned!

  11. Well that makes sense! As long as it’s not out of the series for ever!

  12. If it happens, I’m sure all of the minime kids will be thrilled to race at such an awesome venue. I know it’s not a huge category…but it’s my favourite category 🙂

Again, appreciate the efforts and recognize that this is a first shot at a new series so remaining realistic in expectations.

  13. So I got word today that minime wont be able to race at fortune due to insurance sadly. What we will do for them so they get 4 races though, is have minime provincials at the Tuf Rack fall classic at Sir Sams. We will do there overall awards there also.

  14. Good enough. We’ll make sure we hit up the other 4 for sure then. Thanks for checking it out. Easier to plan for the season knowing ahead. Much appreciated.
