It’s about that time again to go big and dirty.

Just the date for now – pencil in Sat Nov 3 @ 9:00am, with Nov 10 as the rain date.

    Details coming soon!

“Remember, remember the third of November. The funday dirt and trees…”

So given how close the ride is this year to November 5th, we’re embracing the (mild) civic disobedience side of the BDDR this year in the spirit of Guy Fawkes day! Though there will be no riots or storming of parliament, some minor trespassing on golf courses and bi-law infringement seems likely. Bring your Guy Fawkes mask if you have one, and as always, an adventurous spirit!

Saturday November 3 @9:00am, Cricket Tree (rain date Nov 10)

All welcome! But please keep in mind this will be a hard 60-70km ride covering a ton of lost, neglected and hidden trail. Definitely pack a lunch and lots of water! Maybe survival gear. There are no formal rules to follow, but let’s remember to respect each other – sexism, racism, homophobia or any other kind of behavior that undermines dignity and self-esteem of others has no place.

Route: Given the unanimous praise for @veteran_youth’s masterclass East opus last year, we’re doing it again! Yes, hydrocut gauntlet of vegetation and all. With the construction projects kicking off in the East Don, this may be one of the last chances to experience some of these trails in their wild, remote and primal states. And of course, expect to get dirty. Very, very dirty.

Apres: Brunswick Beirhouse has agreed to host us! They have generously offered indoor bike parking for all, and use of “the pit”. I’ll post up on food details closer to the date.

Crushed to be out of county for this one…

Additional recommendation – Bring what you need for any potential repairs. Tube? Sealant? Chain Link? We had some down time last year with flats and other mechanical shenanigans that I’m sure everyone (especially mechanics) would be pleased to avoid.

Crushed you will be out of the country for this one @blurredlines! Though it is November so weather could force us to push it back.

And great point about mechanical self-reliance. We try to avoid dropping people for the most part, but for this ride… well, the pack must survive!

Denial. A head space I can often very comfortably exist in. But with the start of this ride roughly 40 hours away and given the overnight forecast of rain, and tomorrow’s forecast of more rain (to say nothing of the weekend), I need to accept that this is not happening Saturday.

However, next weekend is looking much more promising, so we’re pushing the BDDR date to Saturday November 10th @ 9:00am. Meet at the cricket tree. The 11th, or possibly the 17th are the new fallbacks.

In other good news, looks like Beach Hill Smokehouse will be catering food for the apres on a pay as we go basis! Looks amazing. https://www.beachhillsmokehouse.com/

I’ll post up next week for final confirmation, but expect we are a go next Saturday!

Expect a chilly one tomorrow! This will be a record cold BDDR and if we are lucky, we may even get some snow – though the forecast is calling for mostly sunshine. Dress for the cold, and do what you gotta do to keep warm. Flasks encouraged.

We have an amazing route planned, and it’s going to deviate from last years epic. As it turns out, we expect to be back near the elephant pants/molar bear sculptures twice, once around 11:30 and again around 2:00 so the possibility exists for late joiners. Feel free to text me for exact timing.

For those worried about moisture and damaging the trails, please keep on mind that we will be off the main riding network for the most part. And quite frankly, some of what we have planned can barely even be considered trails.

    A few reminders/pointers:

Ride is 9:00am @ Cricket Tree
Though it seems strange for a morning ride, bring lights ‘cause we are going til sundown!
Pack a lunch and snacks. We often stop at a convenience store at some point, but that is not guaranteed.
Bring all the water you will need (the fountains are off this time of year).
First apres it at Brunswick Bierworks at ~5:00. Look for the loud crowd with the mud splatters in the pit at the back. All welcome!
      Did I mention dress warm?

    See you tomorrow!
