  • Yeah I’ve got the clutch. LBS talked me into bash guard too. One reason I said yes is even aesthetics as I don’t have direct mount cranks.

I did run into some issues though. The shimano ispec B retaining pins were over-torqued and just a bit of power has stripped them! They are so tiny I don’t know about easy outs. The bike shop said they will…[Read more]

  • I speak from a mood of disappointment. The nice weather had me feeling spring riding was closer that it may be (for the more fair weather rider). Good update. Surprised the Pines isn’t in better condition yet and Dundas Valley seems ok…

  • Looks like a massive snow dumping tonight may squash your quest for dirt.

  • Thanks this was what I looked at a year ago when I was going to pull the trigger. Appreciate all the advice.

    Happy Riding.

  • Cool. I also was told about the spider adapter. I was going to purchase the ring from my LBS. I got some stuff from Chain Reaction but still like to give some love to the bike shop so I’m sure he will get the right parts. Just wanted to know if it was possible. Someone mentioned Black Spier rings being durable compared to RF. Any insight on that.…[Read more]

  • This very well could be a stupid question but….

Converting my 2×10 to 1x and I’ve caught a few hiccups (ISPEC B shifter and brake compatibility etc).

I’m curious if my current Race Face Turbine cranks will have compatibility issues with single chain rings because of the 4 bolt mounting tabs that are part of the crank arm. Originally I…[Read more]

  • Thanks Matty. Guess getting two riding seasons in of moderate use was good…

  • Wonderful. Think the basic sounds good to keep it running smoothly. Just didn’t want to get caught up in the “You should have brought this in for a servicing a while ago” routine.

  • Hey guys, I have a RM Thunderbolt, bought fall 2015, put it through moderate terrain, and have only put about 500-600km on it. Suspension has been running fine. Just wondering recommendations for getting the fork and shock serviced. Is it time? Would prefer to do it during winter months instead of mid season. Fanatically clean bike after most…[Read more]

  • Sorry to pester. You say Hilton drains fairly well but pushing a day would let change the wet spots. Would you ride thurs after the amount we got Tuesday? I have other options so don’t want to waste time getting into Hilton and ruining trails or getting muddy as f@#k. Have never been there but eager to ride some tech. Thanks!

  • Was thinking about riding Hilton Falls on Thursday. They were only calling for 1mm rain today but looks like getting more.. how well does this place drain? I’ve never ridden there? Smarter to push it to Friday? I see Fast Times said it was swampy in some areas as of the wk end but we had been rain free for a few days despite the dumping on…[Read more]

  • No harm taken Fietser!

I’m just saying sometimes we overuse the term “need”… I wasn’t sure if I came off as that… I was just agreeing with a lot about what you said… I would still have fun on my old relic of a HT. As for the safety wasn’t even trying to convince myself this is why I want a dropper but the seat can get in the way when…[Read more]

  • I hear ya Fietser. 2 yrs ago I was riding a 2005 HT with a spring fork! Still had fun… was riding with ppl that were riding relics. I ended up getting a modern FS and started a trend amongst my friends… Had a blast this season riding a modern bike and can’t believe how much faster and how much farther I could push a bike.

    So if I used…[Read more]

  • Matty F,

Interesting you want to switch back to 2x… this was the one concern I had going 1x with a large granny gear ratio closer to 1.0 … there’s a couple hills I frequently ride that I can’t imagine running a 36t with a 30 or 32t ring… I ride Short Hills in St. Catharines a lot and theres some steady long climbs, Dundas Valley,…[Read more]

  • Great insight. I’ve never despised my 2×10 especially on trails I know. At times on a new trail you can get caught and the simplicity of a 1x set up would be ideal. I guess I’ve got a good range and gear ratio spacing so looks like a dropper is the best upgrade possible. Thanks everyone for the advice. This forum is really great because only…[Read more]

  • Well I’ve looked into the One Up conversion where you drop your 15t and 17t and replace with a 16t I believe and add a 42 granny. I don’t want to go to much higher than a 0.7 gear ratio as I like to spin when I’m in trouble.

My bike is 2015 but I bought it in fall so really only has one season (about 350km) and has been meticulously maintained.…[Read more]

  • Have been wanting to upgrade to a dropper post for a while but have been waiting for companies to figure things out. So far pretty much sold on 9point8 Fall line mechanical. One problem is my RM Thunderbolt is 2×10 (RM obviously late to join the 1x party). This obviously effects where the lever goes and lever style.

I do only trail riding. Not…[Read more]

  • There’s a video out there where some guy does a bunch of time trials 27.5+ vs 29 and the plus came out on top every time. Smoot trails only a 2.5s difference but in the trail with a fair amount of gnar the plus came in 12s faster! I was strongly considering plus because I’m not into racing but I settled on the Thunderbolt be I didn’t want a…[Read more]
