@Canadmos, I have a set of the Altai Hok skis as well and I like them a lot. They will go up hills that you wouldn’t think they could. I find the in really deep snow they give you more float than snow shoes which is why my snow shoes don’t see a lot of action since buying these. Enjoy them and lets hope the snow stays this year and we get lots of it.
The DMBA now has permission to use a mechanical groomer in Durham Forest. We have been given the OK to groom 15 km of trail with the groomer. Basically most trails north of the Huston Road right of way.
The rest of the single track will probably still get done the old fashioned way, snow shoeing while pulling tires.
Conditions are very good…[Read more]
This is indeed an unfortunate development although it was not unforeseen. We knew the lease would expire and with cost cutting within the TRCA it was almost inevitable that they would not want to continue to pay for this access. The good news is that we do have the 7th Concession access and as that is wholly on TRCA land it is not in jeopardy of…[Read more]
I can confirm that all trails are open in Durham and Dagmar. There was trail maintenance a couple of weeks ago that did have a couple of trails closed temporarily, although not even the bright orange barrier fence kept some riders from riding the closed trails while we were working on them.
A call went out to anyone wanting to do some leaf…[Read more]
We closed a couple of the cheater lines today during our ride. Unbeleavable what some riders will do. One of the shortcuts involved them moving a bunch of logs and actually removing the leaves to define a new line that you guessed it, took a slowish speed corner out of the equation. There are now bigger logs in place of the smallish ones.…[Read more]
Six of us are renting a house for a week in August not far from there. I have never been but from what other people have reported it will be great. Really looking forward to the trip.
Tom, there is a daily user fee of about $15.

Sad news regarding the DMBA Demo Festival.
This is from the DMBA website.
DMBA DEMO FESTIVAL CANCELLED. We have officially cancelled the DMBA Demo Festival due to the 50mm of rain expected. The ground is saturated with water and there is standing water in the parking lot. Under present conditions the trails are vulnerable to damage. The event…[Read more]

I know what you are talking about. A buddy and I used to always say as we would demo new skis, “nothing good can come from this” and then we would demo them anyway and lust after the latest, greatest gear. The trick is to leave the plastic at home and hope that the cooling off period reduces the lust level.
Hopefully your conversation with the rider left an impression on him. Maybe he will stop and think next time that it might be better to wait until the trails are dry. Kudos to you @fietser for trying to educate him on who actually does the maintenance on the trails.
I know in this neck of the woods, Durham Forest, it has taken a while for the…[Read more]
Aha, I got it now. I was pasting the url address within the brackets. Thanks again.
Oh and thanks for the super quick reply. I thought you might be out ripping us some single track on your Pivot.
One suggestion that I have is to have a preview option so we can look at how our posts will look before committing to posting. Just a…[Read more]
All seams to be good now. I had tried loading the page multiple times from scratch but don’t think I tried refresh.
One other issue is that I am not able to add pics into the body of the message, only the Attach Media method. I tried uploading pics to the Photo Gallery and pasting the url into the menu option, but I always end up with the…[Read more]
Love the action pics @FastTimes. I used to have a Canon 50D that I had Magic Lantern loaded into, which enabled me to use Trap Focus which was great for this type of shot. The nice thing about the Magic Lantern software was that you didn’t need to be depressing the shutter button to take the shot.
Durham Forest has firmed up nicely. Watch for ice in Ogres and Out and Missing Link especially if you don’t have studs.
Starting this week they are logging in Durham Forest. This announcement is on the DMBA Facebook page:
As part of ongoing forest management activities at Durham Regional Forest, sections of the Main Tract will be closed to the…[Read more]
